Coverage and Permit Fees
Do you need a council permit for your skip?
If you don’t have a driveway, garden, or other private land to place a skip on to you will need to apply for a council permit to have the skip placed on the roadside.
The council charges for these permits, which we can apply for on your behalf. Only registered skip companies are able to request skip licences, as this requires public liability insurance, a waste carrier’s licence, and compliance with regulations. Prices vary depending on location, but we always provide all the available information upfront to help you make the right decision
We use findmystreet for pre-application advice, as permit fees are non-refundable.
We recommend allowing at least 10 business days to obtain the permit, so please give as much notice as possible when placing your order.
Under the Highways Act 1980, it is an offence to place anything on the highway without written authorization from the Highway Authority.

- Permit length: 21 days
- Same as application: 21 days
- Minimum: 5-working days for application
Thurrock Council
- Areas covered: SS17, RM13, RM14, RM15, RM16, RM17, RM18, RM19, RM20.
- Permit length: Permit length: 7 days
- Renewal fee: Same as application
- Minimum: 5-working days for application
Havering London Borough Council
- Areas covered: SS4, SS5, SS6, SS7, SS8, SS11, SS12, SS13, SS14, SS15. Most CM postcodes
- Permit length: 14 days
- Renewal fee: Same as application
- Minimum: 5-working days for application
Havering London Borough Council
- Areas covered: RM postcodes not covered by Thurrock council
- Permit length: 14 days
- Renewal fee: 7 day extension £150 / 14 days extensions £260
- Minimum: 10-working days for application
